These terms are an agreement between you and Samuel Anders ("we", "us"), who makes BudgeTorch. By using BudgeTorch, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

What BudgeTorch is

BudgeTorch is a budgeting app: you plan each month's income, track debts and savings, and see your progress. Your budget is stored on your phone. You can use it on your own, or pair your phone with one other person's to share a budget through our sync relay, end-to-end encrypted. The privacy policy at budgetorch.app/privacy explains what happens to your information.

Not financial advice

BudgeTorch helps you organize your own numbers. Its calculations (payoff dates, interest estimates, milestones, and the like) are estimates based on what you enter, and they may not match what your lender or bank charges. Nothing in the app is financial, legal, or tax advice. Decisions about your money are yours; for advice about your situation, talk to a qualified professional.

Subscriptions and the free trial

Your data and backups

Your budget lives on your phone. We can't see it, and we can't recover it if your phone is lost, reset, or the app is deleted. Save copies regularly (Settings → Save a copy). If you protect a copy with a password, keep the password safe: we can't open the copy without it.

Sharing with someone

Partner sync shares your budget with the one person you pair with in person. They can see and change the shared budget, and changes you make reach their phone. Pair only with someone you trust; you can unpair at any time in Settings → Sync with partner.

Using BudgeTorch fairly

Please don't misuse the app or the sync relay: no attempts to overload or break the service, get into someone else's data, work around the subscription, or use BudgeTorch for anything illegal. We may limit or stop access for anyone who does.

Availability and changes

We work to keep BudgeTorch and the sync relay running, but we can't promise they'll always be available or free of errors. We may change, add, or remove features. If we ever stop offering BudgeTorch, we'll tell you in the app ahead of time where we can, and you can still save a copy of your data.

Disclaimer

BudgeTorch is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or savings, arising from your use of BudgeTorch. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for BudgeTorch in the 12 months before the claim. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

Ending these terms

You can stop using BudgeTorch at any time: cancel your subscription in your store account and uninstall the app. We may end these terms or your access if you break them. The sections on financial advice, your data, the disclaimer, and liability continue after that.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama and of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update the effective date above and post the new version at this address. For significant changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use BudgeTorch after that means you accept the new terms.
